A photo of an American-issue Parka, Extended Cold Weather, Camouflage from the author's collection, purchased in 1996.
This camouflage uses four colours: a green sand as its base, with medium green and red-brown printed in large blotches, and black in smaller swirls. However, the basic colours vary depending on the material of the uniform: on the parka pictured above, which is made entirely of synthetic materials, they are much stronger than on regular uniforms. On the latter, they also fade much more easily with washing, turning especially the sand colour into a much more tan shade than it originally was.
