American six-colour desert camouflage, modern

[American 6-colour desert camouflage, modern]

A photo of an American-issue Cover Field Pack Camouflage Desert from the author's collection, purchased sometime in the mid-1990s. Though undated, it is from lot number 0002, which probably means it was made for the 1990-91 Desert Shield/Desert Storm operations.

Although it is difficult to see in both the photo and on real uniforms, this pattern has six colours. The base is a pale, tan sand colour, with an overprint of yellow sand. Two shades of red-brown, one slightly browner than the other, are printed over this; these two colours always appear side-by-side: either as two irregular bands one above the other, or as a blotch of the brown red-brown with a center of the other red-brown. The spots are a very pale sand, a shade lighter still than the base colour, with black edges.
